Originally composed for wind ensemble between 1916 and 1918, Children’s March is a showpiece for Grainger’s unique whimsical style. While many of Grainger’s well known works were based on existing folk melodies, the core melody of Children’s March was written by Grainger himself. The piece was inspired by Grainger’s “playmate beyond the hills”, and is a wonderful way to infuse any program with lightness and humour.
