Isidor Philipp (1863-1958) was a French pianist, composer, and pedagogue. Philipp studied piano under Georges Mathias (a student of Frédéric Chopin) at the Paris Conservatory where he won prizes for his piano playing. While at the conservatory, Philipp began a friendship with fellow student Claude Debussy, which would last until Debussy’s death in 1918. Philipp’s other teachers include Stephen Heller and Camille Saint-Saëns.
This book, originally published in four parts but provided at Piano Files in one single edition, is a masterpiece for developing the coordination required to gain full command of double-note technique. The first part of the book contains exercises written by Philipp that address specific challenges of playing double-notes.
