Schumann’s third piano sonata was written while he was completely separated from his wife Clara, a period of great emotional darkness. Containing passages of despair to fervor, the piece overflows with Romanticism and turbulence.
Note: This volume includes the original version published in September 1836, as well as the revised version published in 1853 which includes the Scherzo that was omitted from the original publication.
