Harvest Hymn is a classic example of Percy Grainger’s elastic scoring, where he intends for his music to be played by a variety of ensembles; anywhere from solo piano to a large orchestra with choir. Bars 1-17 of this short piece were sketched in 1905 as “Hymny Tune”, bars 18 to the end were written in 1932 as “Kungsholm”, and the whole thing was “dished up for piano” by the composer in 1936.
