Country Gardens, written for piano in 1918, was one of Percy Grainger’s most popular works and was added to the National Film and Sound Archive’s Sounds of Australia registry in 2008. Grainger arranged this piece for piano based off of an English folk tune provided by Cecil Sharp. In 1962, Jimmie Rogers reached number 5 in the UK charts from his rendition of the piece. Certainly one of Grainger’s most recognizable pieces, Country Gardens makes a beautiful addition to any program featuring English music, popular music, or folk music.
