Dedicated to violinist Karol Lipiński in 1835, Carnaval Op.9 is a suite of 21 short pieces representing masked characters of the Carnival festival. Several composers have orchestrated the work, including Maurice Ravel, and Alexander Glazunov and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov who contributed to a collaborative orchestration. As the subject matter might lead one to expect, the piece is full of charm, fire, passion, and humour. Most of the movements are of modest difficulty.
