Written in 1909, Drei Klavierstücke (Three Piano Pieces) is considered an early example of Arnold Schoenberg’s transition to, and development of, atonality. As this is an early example of Schoenberg’s abandonment of traditional tonality, there are remnants of tonal structure throughout the work. This piece would be a compelling and informative addition to any program that contains atonal music, or for any musician seeking to investigate this style of music.
