The Suite “1922” opus 26 is a five-part piano cycle by Paul Hindemith . A caricature and incisive portrait of the circus, ball and music-hall music he targets in his criticism of petit-bourgeois culture, the author plays on the vulgarity of rhythms opposed to a polytonal and atonal harmony.
The movements are as follows:
- March
- Shimmy
- Nachtstück (night)
- Boston
- Ragtime: preceded by a note: “… plays this piece very wild, but in a rhythm always strict, like a machine. Consider the piano as an interesting species of percussion and treat it accordingly “.
