Henry Bertini (1798-1876) was a successful performing artist, having begun his touring career at the age of 12, but is most remembered for his extraordinary teaching abilities. It is said that the decoration of the Legion of Honour was offered to Bertini in recognition of his contributions to the musical arts, but he humbly refused to accept it.
Bertini wrote these preludes and pieces for his own pupils, and they are designed for the beginner pianist.
